Born and raised outside Charlottesville, Virginia, Kara became active in politics during her time at George Mason University, where she led her college Young Democrats chapter and worked on local campaigns and for advocacy groups including NextGen America and NARAL Pro-Choice America. Post-college she continued working in field for Virginia campaigns, and she continues to serve in leadership with the Virginia Young Democrats to encourage young people to become involved with the political process..
